In the Merchant of Venice, I believe that Shylock is a victim. I think that because Shylock has been treated badly. He is hated by many people. People have also been very racist towards Shylock, far too much. Although he may have done bad, the way he was treated was far more than what was deserved. Treated unfairly, Shylock is a victim, and a villain at the same time.
In my opinion, racism is bad for anyone. No one should have an opinion regarding an entire race especially if it's something bad. You can not blame an entire race for one thing. Just like that, white lives matter as well. Racism is something that I don't support. If I didn't like one person, I wouldn't say that their entire race is bad because that's false, it isn't true in the slightest. I also feel like racism exists in every race. You can't ever say that racism isn't bad for white people. It is bad, racism itself is bad, no matter what color it is meant towards.
In this blog post, I'd like to share two points that I saw in the Police Misconduct video by Hasan Minhaj. The first point is that, it is nearly impossible to sue a cop in the United States of America. Cops will defend each other, they are a union. They will cover and defend each other, but it is extremely difficult to sue a cop. Another point I saw in the video was that in case of a police shooting, according to the bill of rights, the officer may have the right to review that footage/evidence. No one else is allowed to look at that footage which isn't fair. Hasan Minhaj also said "Even in the NFL, when the refs are reviewing the tape, everyone in the stadium can also see the replay" and so everyone can show their emotions and how they feel about the refs decisions. That isn't the case in policing, and I don't think that that's right even the slightest.
I feel like one of the themes in this poem is good vs evil. I think that because, in the poem, Dionne Brand said "the city is beauty, unbreakable, and amorous as eyelids. In the streets, pressed, with fierce departures, submerged landings" which shows how there's a good side and a bad side. Not all of the city is beautiful, there is also some bad in it.
There are two ways to understand a story. You can either hear it, or you can read it. I prefer hearing it. When one reads a story out loud, you get to hear the emotion, and their tone. That helps you understand the story better. Hearing a story is far more effective since it just provides so much more detail than you simply reading it. I feel like a physical copy of the story is better since when a story is passed down from previous generations, words tend to accidentally change and so the story isn't what it originally was. A physical copy would ensure that the story never changes, and it is the same story as it always has been.
This following paragraph will tell you about whether I not felt that that photojournalist should've helped the child or not. In my opinion, I feel like Kevin Carter just followed instructions and so he shouldn't be getting hatred for not helping that poor boy. Yes, he was suffering, although the reporter had been advised not to touch people because of the diseases. It's possible there could've been other reasons as to why he didn't help him but this is all I know so far. I'm not too sure about how dangerous vultures are but if there was an opportunity, Kevin should've taken the opportunity to try to get the vulture as far away from the child as possible instead of just standing there and taking pictures
The Anecdote I chose is 'To caution'. There were three examples listed, those three examples are:
I feel like it wasn't right of the sister to beat someone up for not knowing a language, I found it very terrifying and it hurt me just reading it. How can someone be punished for not knowing a language? They'd learn it if they could, and there isn't even a point of learning it if there's no reason to. It was very wrong of the sister to hit that child, such actions are very traumatizing and they'll always be in ones head. This meme is an example of a person complaining about their job online. Them doing such things would leave a digital footprint as once something is on the internet, it stays on the internet. This could possibly get that person in big trouble or even fired. When posting something online, you need to be careful about what you're saying because using the wrong words could get you in big trouble and complaining about a job that you're not putting effort in is not right. If you're employed and doing barely any/poor work, it is right of the boss to lower salary as you should be getting paid for how much you work. The point is that, do not post about such topics online without taking into consideration about the outcomes that it could have.
